Happy Farders Day (as said by Riley)
Happy Farder's Day! Riley got up this morning and greeted her daddy with this sentiment (say it out loud...thats hilarious and yes, I am a nerd)
Anyway.
When you first get married, you KNOW what kind of person you want for your husband. The tall handsome fireman was PERFECT for me. But you never know about the father-factor. He has a sweet and sensitive soul who gets teary at McDonalalds commercials. I had no doubt he'd be a good Dad. I have to admit though the fact that I kicked his tail in putt-putt, at the batting cages and he was NOT a baseball fan at all when we first met... worried me a bit, but what he heck,
We had us some babies and here we are.
I'll tell ya, (and probably not often enough)
I do thik I hit the jackpot.
Up until this past year, he had a strange shiftwork schedule. I am a nurse and have had a very flexible part time gig since Jack was first born which has been a huge blessing in the daycare situation. We decided early on that we would try not to do daycare and we would work opposite schedules while the kids are little. A bit of a bummer when you want to spend any time with your hubby, but it has been so great to see him grow into such a wonderful Dad. So when we had Jack, I went to work 2 days a week on the days that he was home from the FD. Steve was hands on from day one. He can change a diaper on the back of his truck, deal with projectile vomiting in a restauraunt and he can even do pony tails in Riley's hair like a champ!
I am a 'scheduler' from the old school and when I'm home we're up by 730, eat lunch at noon, we nap at 2...it works. On the days Daddy is home, they go to officer meetings, fire department training, swearing in ceremonies and even meetings with the city manager...but apparently that works, too! We have different styles of parenting, but I'd like to think we complement each other fairly well. Where I am impatient, he is calm and cool. Where I am controlling(um, only sometimes haha) he goes with the flow.
The older I get, the more I realize nobody really has the 'perfect' life or situation and as parents all we can do the best we can. I truly am so thankful for my husband and what a great Dad he is and what a great family we have.
I know 2 little people who would say he's a perfect Dad!
The (surprise!) TBall Coach
Showing Jack how to properly dress in the country... hahahaha!
Didn't complain when I went on a girls' weekend and left him with the kiddos.
Steve and Little Steve
Driving Instructor
....and he hasn't yet kicked out the kitten...
Happy Father's Day!
