One of the hardest things about our recent move was Jack finding a friend. He had a steady flow of cousins and friends the first week that we moved. People coming to help unpack and friends coming to see the new house, but as the "newness" wore off, the visits did too and here we sat looking for something to do. At our old house, we would call Brady or Sam or Jude-n-Lily or any one of the cousins, and we'd have a playmate within an hour. Well, school hadn't started yet so the easy convenient friends were not happening. As a Mom, your heart breaks a little when your baby tells you he's sad because he doesn't have any friends at the new house.
Well, our prayers were answered when we found out there was not just one 5 year old a few doors down, but TWINS! A boy and girl starting kindergarten, too!
So Jack finally got adventurous enough to wander down to their house where they were riding bikes in the culdesac. What we DIDN'T know is that the boy is an expert bike rider and motor cross rider(yes, a 5 year old with a teeny little motorcycle)whose parents don't make him wear a helmet when riding around the 'hood. (GASP!)
So Mr.Cool decided to chuck his own helmet in the bushes somewhere between here and there (a helmet is soooo uncool) and to "jump the ramp" at the twins house.
Needless to say, it didn't go to well and the girl twin came running down the street to tell us Jack was hurt "really bad." Steve ran down to find Jack sitting on the curb with the cool kids' Dad boo-hoo-hooing.
So much for being the cool new kid.
These photos were a few days later, so it doesn't look so bad, but he had a scraped up chin, nose and forehead.
Can't you just see him saying, "awww, it was no big deal"...
Oh, and of course school pictures were the next day.Do they airbrush Kindergartners?

It never fails...why do kids always get scratched up right before pictures??? :) Glad he's ok.
I had no idea it went down like that. I figured he was just toolin' around on his bike and crashed. Didn't know he had attempted a ramp at the motor cross champ's house--that's too much pressure to resist! Too funny. One thing about Jackie, he'll try just about anything.
Yipes - no helmet. So glad he wasn't hurt too badly. I a HUGE helmet advocate, but it could be because my brother free-rides for a living, hmmmm....
